Innovation in the aviation sector

June 15th, 2009

Human Recognition Systems (HRS) has a long track record for its innovative technology and consultancy in the aviation sector.

The company is working with the two largest UK airport groups, leveraging its experience of aviation, biometrics and human behavioural analytics to optimise security, efficiency and customer satisfaction.

Last year it helped Manchester Airport become the UK's first to use iris-recognition security for staff access.

HRS aviation business development consultant, Jim Slevin, has over 22 years experience with the British Airports Authority (BAA) - latterly as risk and identity director.  His understanding of the airport industry is invaluable in helping clients navigate the industry’s increasingly complex regulatory framework.

By working closely with airport security and customer service teams, HRS has developed a thorough understanding of the common problems faced by airport operators and has designed and developed a range of biometric solutions.

Drawing on its technical and aviation knowledge, HRS considers all significant factors - including people, policies, processes and technology - before developing bespoke solutions to meet the airports' key business drivers.

HRS has already developed a number of solutions and is currently working on a number of innovative trials, including:

MSecurePod: uses biometric technology to improve security by regulating staff access to restricted areas.  The first scheme of its kind in the UK uses the iris-scanning technology to control the movement of staff from landside to airside.

MFlow: an automated exit lanes system to manage passenger flow and significantly improve security and efficiency.  It combines human behavioural analytical technology with 'smart surveillance' CCTV .

Search lane efficiency trial: looking at improving throughput of passengers through search lane areas whilst maintaining maximum security levels.

Perimeter protection trial: uses the latest smart CCTV technology to improve perimeter management around secure and controlled zones, in and around the airport.

Passenger queuing and journey measurement trial: designed to help significantly improve resource and security planning by using the latest biometric and smart CCTV technology to provide intelligence on passenger flow through the airport.
