UK BiometricsBiometric technology is one of the fastest growing technologies in the UK. Lead by the government and public funded projects like the National ID Card, biometric passports and mobile biometric units to be used by the police, to name just a few; biometrics is increasingly being used within the private sector to safeguard against increased risk from criminal and terrorist activity but also to improve efficiencies by automating processes. Biometrics technology has been around for over 25 years. However, it is only in the last few years that its usage in the UK has become more widespread, with an increasing number of organisations recognising its real value. This is a trend which looks set to continue as the systems and biometric technology continue to develop in functionality and capability. At HRS, we have worked with many public and private UK businesses to develop and implement new and innovative biometric solutions to improve business performance, making them more efficient and secure. Our biometric systems are: Cost-Effective HRS will always establish a business case to support the requirement of a new biometrics system; whether that is by enabling a direct reduction in overheads or significantly improving processes to result in substantial time efficiencies. The cost of initial installation can usually be repaid within the first year of use. UK companies are saving money by using biometrics, as whilst helping to reduce the risk of fraud/theft. Increased Security Biometrics enables proof positive identification of individuals significantly reducing the risk of theft/fraud/vandalism. Existing security measures in use, including manned security, swipe cards and pins are all open to abuse, and rely solely on the honesty of individuals using them. Increasingly UK organisations are recognising that biometric systems, in particular biometric access control, can significantly improve security, ensuring premises are safe from the threat of intruders by only allowing authorised individuals, access on proof of identity by the biometric system. Remove Human Error In the UK all organisations not already using biometrics are at risk of human error, whether it be an honest mistake or planned abuse. The risk is removed by using biometrics because the process becomes automated. It is almost impossible for an individual to alter their biometrics, so by using a biometric system it removes the possibility of a security officer incorrectly matching an individual’s identity to an image on their identity card. A Host of Applications HRS works across a range of sectors, the following are just some of the areas where the biometric systems have been installed in the U.K:
